Invest Commission Free with DRPs!
*** Dedicated to all those brokers who wouldn't help me...***
Investing even small amounts of money, over long periods of time, in solid company's stock, has historically been an excellent way to create wealth. Slow accumulation of quality stocks and investments over long periods of time is the secret. But how do you become a millionaire when you only has a small amount to invest? Information on this page will tell you how.
Hundreds of companies offer stock sales directly to their share holders. A few you will recognize:IBM, Coca-Cola, Xerox, Kodak, Black and Decker, Harley Davidson, Intel etc. These stocks can be purchased with no commissions- and these companies allow you to invest in small amounts. Investing regularly, in small increments allows almost anyone (no more excuses) to invest in the same companies as mutual funds and pension plans do. For fractions of what you might imagine, you can enjoy the same investment opportunities as the big boys. The secret is called a Dividend Re-investment Plan, and may well be the best way for small investors to create wealth slowly.
Getting Started In a
Dividend Reinvestment Plan
What To Do:
How To Do It:
- First, choose a company and buy one share of that companies' stock.
- Second, enroll in that companies' Dividend Reinvestment Plan.
- Third, enjoy commission free stock purchases!
To participate in most Dividend Reinvestment Plans, you must be a shareholder, that is, you must own one share of stock. This can be accomplished in several ways--
Purchase one share of stock through a stock brokerage service such as:
Charles Schwab | DATEK on line | Fidelity Investments | Other Brokers Page
You will have to open a brokerage account to do it this way- the broker will tell you how. Also, you will pay commission through these brokerages, for the first share, but once you are a share holder and enroll in the DRP, you may begin to buy your stock directly from your company.
A Better Way:
A much simpler way is through the Money Paper's "DirectInvesting.com". DirectInvesting.com will help you buy your first share and get you enrolled in the Dividend Reinvestment Plan you choose. Through DirectInvesting.com, you can purchase your first DRP share on-line through a secure check draft through Veri-Sign. Or you can download the on-line order form and do it by snail mail. Its worth the time. Take the link to their site.
Buy Your First Share Now! Through a special arrangement with The Money Paper, and for a limited time, our visitors will receive a special discount to buy one share. Consider yourself an honorary member of the "Become Rich Slowly Club". What are you waiting for?
The Advantage to DRPs:
- The advantage to a dividend reinvestment plan or DRP( some call it a "DRIP") is the commission free, minimum investment, in many cases as little as $10.00.
- Virtually anyone who is reading this page can afford a periodic investment $10.00, yes?
- Investing $10.00 a month, one can build a small fortune, over time.
- Because dividends are automatically reinvested, (if you so choose) your money grows faster-- even as you sleep!
A very good book, if somewhat outdated, is Buying Stocks Without A Broker by Charles B. Carlson. Buying Stocks Without a Broker explains the advantages, strategies and details of DRP companies. This book is a treasure for the small investor's library. It gives details that simply can't fit on a Web site. It also lists the companies phone numbers and particulars of each plan. The money this book could make you could exceed its cost by many times. I have contacted the author (Feb 2001) asking if there is going to be a revised addition anytime soon. Don't hold your breath- its not in the works-buy the one available now.
