Level A Laboratory Identification of Agents of Bioterrorism

  2. Outline the lab tests involved in "ruling out" agents of bioterrorism.
  3. Identify those agents that should be sent to reference laboratory (Level B).

Laboratory Detection of Antibiotic Resistance

Objectives: At the conclusion of the lecture, participants will be able to,

  1. Describe the role of the clinical laboratory in antimicrobial testing and reporting.
  2. Discuss the major groups of pathogens that have been identified as present problems and the important antimicrobial agents associated with each group.
  3. Describe the types of antimicrobial resistance that can be expressed by bacteria.
  4. List the current recommendations for susceptibility testing of Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus species, Enterococcus species, and ESBL detection.
  5. Cite recently released antimicrobial agents and their appropriate standards.

Driving Instructions

From the North (North-West:Indianapolis):

Take I-74E to the Sunman exit. Turn right onto SR 101. Travel about 6 miles to SR 48, turn left. Stay on SR 48 for about 15 miles. Hospital will be on the right.

From the South:

Take I-75 N. I-75N becomes I-75/I-71 N. Take the I-275 West/I-275 East exit, exit number 185, towards Greater Cincinnati Airport. Merge onto I-275nWest. Exit US 50 number 16 towards Greendale/Lawrenceburg/Aurora. Turn left onto US 50 (West). Travel about 2.5 miles and turn right onto IN 48. Travel about 2.5 miles up the hill. Hospital is on the left.

From the East:

Take I-75 South towards Cincinnati. Take I-275 exit, number 16 towards Columbus (I-71)/Indianapolis (I-74) Keep right at the fork in the ramp and merge onto I-275 West. Travel about 18 mi. and take the I-275 South exit number 5, towards Kentucky. Take the US 50 exit number 16, towards Greendale/Lawrenceburg/Aurora. Turn left (west) onto US 50 and travel about 2.5 mi. to IN 48. Turn right onto 48 and travel about 2.5 miles up the hill. Hospital is on the left.

From the West:

Take US 50 E to SR 48 (Lawrenceburg). Turn left onto SR 48 and travel about 2.5 miles up the hill. Hospital is on the left.
