Why Uniforms?
Don't uniforms stifle individuality? No, they put us on an even footing.
They remind us we are part of a larger group and should look out for each
other. They tell others that we are part of Scouting and proud of it.
Uniforms are also an important indication of advancement and leadership.
Some Important Considerations
- No boy should be denied access to Scouting because they can't afford
the uniform.
- On the other hand, no boy whould appear at a meeting without at least
having the appropriate shirt, tucked into a clean pair of pants or shorts.
- In situations of need or otherwise, boys should have the opportunity to
earn the money for their uniform as a means of building character. Where
possible hand-me-downs or the PTA thrift shop should be considered.
- Leadership in Scouting is by example. That means on occasions
where boys are expected to wear their uniforms, so are their leaders!
Anything less is hypocritical.
