Cub Scout Pack 835 Program of Events

For those new to Pack 835, here is an overview of the Pack Meeting Program.

Cub Scout Roundup is our chance to get acquainted. We take the first Wednesday in September to explain the Cub Scout program and what Pack 835 is all about. We'll discuss activities, uniforms and books, and try to answer any questions you may have.

Our first full pack meeting is the September Bridge Building event. It's a chance for the new dens to get acquainted by working together as a team. Each den is given cardboard, tape, and straws to build a bridge. Which is then tested. The den whose bridge holds the most bricks wins.

Museum Night brings a local museum to present science or creatures to the boys. Siblings are welcome.

Sometimes we'll alternate Mask Night it's really a beauty contest in reverse. Cubs show up with their best mask and try to scare us all.

The November Cake Bake is a test of our culinary creativity. Each boy bakes and decorates a cake. Cakes are arranged by den, and the boys vote on each other's cakes using ballots and adhesive stars. Categories include best Scout theme, prettiest, best use of chocolate, etc.

The Chapel Hill/Carrboro Holiday Parade is held on the first Saturday in December. It's a chance for Cubs (and parents) who want to march down main street and show their pride in Scouting.

Holiday Night in December is our chance to return something to the community. Besides decorating cookies and making ornaments, we also assemble toiletry kits for the local homeless shelter.

The January Pinewood Derby* is your classic race of small wooden-bodied cars pulled by gravity. The activity is intense as the boys check their building skills in a test of speed. The top three cars move on to the District Pinewood Derby. Tiger Cubs who choose to participate race their cars separately. Click here to see the Pinewood Derby rules.

Our Blue and Gold Banquet is a family potluck dinner. It is a key occasion for recognition.

On Carnival Night each den creates a booth that challenges the skills of the Pack. Admission is a food item for the needy and siblings are welcome to participate.

Skit Night* is a chance to showcase our talents in writing and performing as the boys perform in skits for the rest of the den.

Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a Plane! It's Rocket Launch*! Here boys get to defy the laws of gravity (instead of their parents) with rockets they build themselves. Rocket Kits are provided by the Pack.

The Moving Up closes out our year with a final recognition event. Here Tiger Cubs graduate into Cub Scouts and second year Webelos graduate into Boy Scouting.

*Optional for Tiger Cubs
