Dr. Strangelove - Music from the films of Stanley Kubrick

Collection of pieces from each of Kubrick's films, including Fear and Desire, Killer's Kiss, The Killing, and Dr. Strangelove, as well as two tracks from the out-of-print The Shining score including the song  Midnight the Stars and You which was not even available on the original The Shining vinyl LP. NOTE: Almost all of these are not the original soundtrack recordings  but were performed especially for this album by The City of Prague Philharmonic. Electronic music from Clockwork Orange and The Shining was performed by Mark Ayres. Vera Lynn does perform the song "We'll Meet Again" but it is not the same arrangement that was used in Dr. Strangelove. "Midnight the Stars and You" is the same recording used in The Shining, but unlike the film's version it has not been processed to remove pops, clicks, and hiss. Only "Surfin' Bird" by The Trashmen is the same recording used in Full Metal Jacket.

This title appears to be out of print and has been replaced by the new version below.

2001 - Music from the films of Stanley Kubrick

Looks to be a modified and re-titled version of the above release by Silva Screen Records. The three pop songs have been removed and one track  from Eyes Wide Shut and a second track from Spartacus have been added.

Spartacus

Alex North's original score. The booklet contains notes on the production, color photos from the film and a profile of North.

Lolita

Nelson Riddle's original score. This recent reissue, by the same label that did the new 2001 reissue below, includes previously unreleased music plus excerpts of dialogue. 23 tracks compared to the original album's 12. The booklet includes notes, stills, and photos of the premiere.

2001: A Space Odyssey

There have been a number of 2001 soundtrack albums produced in the past but this most recent release is the most definitive, presenting all of the original film music in the order in which it appeared in the motion picture, including the overture music missing from the original MGM soundtrack LP, which also contained a different version of Also Sprach Zarathustra ( the main title theme ) than was actually used in the motion picture. This album contains both versions. There are also over 9 minutes of HAL9000 dialogue, an informative booklet with many pictures, and a cardboard slip case over the jewel box.

Alex North's 2001, The Legendary Original Score

The late Alex North's original score. His friend and fellow composer Jerry Goldsmith, guided by North's cassette and sheet music, reverently conducts the National Philharmonic Orchestra in this world premiere recording of the score commissioned by Kubrick who later chose not to use it in his film. Booklet contains the story of how this lost score came to be resurrected.

A Clockwork Orange

Contains previously recorded classical music and the original score by Wendy Carlos.

Clockwork Orange: Wendy Carlos's Complete Original Score

Just when you thought you had the complete collection. Originally, the film's classical score was to be entirely performed on the synthesizer, but some tracks couldn't be completed in time for the film's release, so a few traditional orchestral recordings were used on the soundtrack. This album contains the finished electronic versions of tracks such as The Thieving Magpie (La Gazza Ladra) as well as the full version of Timesteps and other original Carlos compositions like Country Lane, which do not appear on the official soundtrack album above. This CD reissue also contains two bonus tracks not on its original 1972 vinyl LP release. This is an enhanced CD containing the full audio program as well as files to be viewed on your computer.

For those interested, Carlos has also released Tales Of Heaven & Hell containing a track called Clockwork Black, which includes some of the themes used in A Clockwork Orange. This is an enhanced CD containing the full audio program as well as files to be viewed on your computer.
