The Fishing Report. June 26, 2009. All in all, the 2009 Tarpon season will go down as one that was great from April to Mid-May, followed by an outstanding worm hatch, then alot of West Winds and low pressure that made the fishing very challenging indeed. We are looking forward to Grand Slam season this summer!!!

"...The first burst of power from the bonefish took Jim by surprise and nearly coiled the extra fly line around his neck. He quickly recovered however, and scrambled to clear the extra fly line to the reel. What seemed like an eternity took only seconds, as the fish ran at least two hundred yards across the flat, maybe two-fifty, before slowing down..."

"...As we approach the Southeast flats of Marquesa, I am reminded of last night's strategy session at Turtle Kraals. I'll call out the clock position and distance in feet to the fish. When the Permit is within your range, cast the fly so it lands a foot or two in front of him or upcurrent of him. Reacting quickly with your cast is essential, as it takes only a few seconds to spook the fish or to lose your shot. So, try to limit yourself to one false cast at the most..."
