Tipton, Pa.

Welcome to the Altoona Speedway. The Speedway operated in Tipton Pa. from 1923 until it was forced to close in 1929,with the start of the Depression.A total of three racers lost thier lives during it's existence.The track was made of yellow pine 2x4's laid up on edge.It was 60 feet wide and 1.25 miles long.The highest speed ever recorded there was 138.6 mph by Leon Duray, on a test run in 1926.
