Tom Lynam presents Altoona's Ledgendary Lamont Robbery
Back in the 50's, we think, Altoona businessman Danny "Dutch" Lamont was robbed of $50,000, out of his home.
A couple of days later, the police rounded up a few of the thugs, after they killed one of their own, and dumped the body down around the Harrisburg area.
The photos were taken at a hearing at the home office of Alderman William Wietzel on Race St. in Altoona.

Dutch Lamont ...Robbed of $50,000, with his brother Hardy in the background.

Attorney Sam Jubelirer questions the dame involved with the ring of thugs."What's with the veil and tissues? ...Cut the theatrics! "

Another one of the accused takes the hot seat.(Too bad this guy didn't have eyeglasses and a matching vest.....he could impersonate a lawyer.)

The third accused goes under fire as Attorney Jubelirer (left),Park Loose,Asst. D.A. ,(far right) and Calvin Lang ,District Attorney(2nd. fr. right) listen in.

Discussion heats up at the hearig. "Looks like it's time to call in Tom Dickey to handle this defense."
The following three pix are of a fire at Frozen Farm Products...(Sky Bros./U.S. Foods) on Margaret Ave. in Aug. 1961.

About the photographs in Altoona Archives.
Images of a Hometown U.S.A.---Locked in time.

These pictures provide a peek into the past of the people and places of the Altoona,Pennsyvania area.Whether the picture content is of downtown, across town, down in the valley, or"clean out" by the mall, these pictures are loaded with depth and character.Don't be surprized if you recognized some ethnic faces coupled with an american grin.

Also note the mammoth structures, of by-gone days, which required more energy to rip apart than it did to put them together.

A lot of the people in these photograghs are still around today, and others are only a generation away from the people still in this region.

Truly, these photograghs are local history locked in time;but easily unlocked by tapping the memories of a still touchable generation of people rooted in this area.

Go ahead ...Ask some " old people " that you may come in contact with ,about the content of some of these pictures, then get ready to catch an earful of " when I was your age.." stories.

This Web Page is hybrid of two mediums, split by two generations.

Keep in mind, that before everyone had a television set, black and white pictures were the visual medium of the day. Now anybody in the world can view these photos on a medium which will change television as we know it today.

One setback that we must overcome is the age-old " generation gap " problem. The majority of the people on the Web, are probably under the 35-40 year old age group, which is about the age, one would at least have to be to remember the contents of these photos first hand.

One quick word about copyrights. Please respect our " Copy Rights ". Just as it is illegal to tape a song off of the radio, or a show off of the television; it is illegal to copy these photographs without permission from Altoona Archives.

At Altoona Archives,we do not mind if you PRINT pages from this Website for the purpose of showing other people, but we don't want our actual Photographs copied. We feel the printed web pages have a "crummy" resolution compared to an actual photo. These photos can not be taken for use on any webpage, without our permisson.Anybody is allowed to link to the entire website, but Do Not link directly to a certain picture.

All of the pictures displayed in Altoona Archives are available for sale
as black and white prints , or in several digital formats for various uses.

Aside from all the pictures that you see in Altoona Archives there are many more, too numerous to mention, Available upon request.
