Elsie Cheney's first husband, John Elton Thomas, died when Mabel was a baby. She married a second time to a Mr. Roberts (first name possibly James) when Ethel and Mabel were young girls. He was at one time a foreman on a cattle ranch at the Irvine Ranch, working for the Irvine Co. She made draperies at Chandler's Furniture Store in Santa Ana, CA. Moved to Whittier and worked there. Moved to Pacific Grove, CA and worked in a department store (was there in 1943 when John Cole was stationed at Monterey Naval Pre-flight School). Lived in SF and later in Huntington Beach with Mabel Irene and her family. Buried in same cemetery as Harry Aldrich Overmyer (husband of Mabel Irene) in Westminster, CA.
