Notes:
Albert received a common-school education, and lived at home until he was twenty-four years old. In May, 1864, Albert enlisted as a soldier in Company E, One Hundred and Thirty-fourth Ohio Volunteer Infantry of which his brother William was Captain. He was sent into Virginia and served under General Butler, seeing service on the James River and at Cumberland, Maryland. At the close of the War, Albert was honorably discharged.
Mr Cheney farmed in Union Township but finally settled outside of Mechanicsburg on 93 acres which had been a part of his father's farm. Albert was a stanch Republican. He belonged to the local post of the Grand Army of the Republic at Mechanicsburg. (From the "History of Champaign County" by Judge Evan P. Middleton in 1917).
