Additional Information

Jacob Anthon "Jake" Cole:

Notes:
In 1860, Jacob left his boyhood home in Indiana for Kentucky.

Jacob and Lenora were listed on page 544 of the Milford Township, Riley County, Kansas 1870 Federal Census. Jacob, 28, was a farmer with real estate valued at $600.00. His personal proerty was valued at $30.00. Alvin was 7 at the time of the census.

Jacob moved to Fresno in 1873 where he began wheat farming. He was a progressive farmer, who along with his nephew Clovis N. Cole, were the first persons in Fresno to purchase and successfully operate a combined harvester.

In 1876?, Jacob sold his farm to his son, Alvin, and moved into Fresno. He entered into the Real Estate business with his brother H.S. Cole and F.M. Chittenden. They formed a firm called Cole, Chittenden and Cole. Upon retirement, Jacob moved back to the farm.

Jacob had a severe case of grippe about a month before he died. The grippe resulted in an abscess just behind his left ear. An Operation was performed, and the abscess was removed. However, Jacob's advanced age made him unable to stand up to the rigors of an operation, and he grew weaker until his death.
