Notes:
Thomas was a lay preacher who traveled from town to town preaching the gospel.
The town of Wheeling, Iowa was laid out by Thomas and his son-in-law, John Rankin on July 5, 1851. Thomas was instrumental in founding the Methodist Church in Wheeling, Iowa. Thomas named a son after John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church.
