Additional Information
Jonathan Guy "Jack" Cheney:
Notes:
Jack graduated from Coalinga High School on June 7, 1937. He went into the family oil rig business for a brief amount of time. Then he moved to Santa Monica to work for Douglas Aircraft.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Jack wanted to enlist in the Marines. He was declined because of poor eyesight. After some careful thought, Jack decided to join the Merchant Marines where he stayed and worked for his country through World War II, the Korean War, and the Viet Nam War. When he retired from the Merchant Marines after 25+ years of service and many trips around the world, Jack held the rank of Captain. Jack also worked for 23 years for States Marines. He worked for Lloyds of London as a marine insurance assessor. Up until his death, Jack also worked for his good friend, Cliff, at Barnett & Casbarian out of Texas. Cliff remembers Jack as a man who had the ability to talk to the young "still green" engineers and the old "know all" engineers--and get them to work together.
Jack was one of those unforgettable characters in your life. He had a caustic sense of humor, and loved to use it on everyone he came into contact with. He could be loud, he was just a little opinionated, he would tease people insufferabley, but that was the way he showed his love. He was a generous man who even paid for a headstone for his sister-in-law's grave (Rose), not one of his favorite people. He will be sorely missed for his famous Remus Fizzes in the mornings, and his Christmas Dinner shrimp cocktail.
