Additional Information

Irvin Polson:

Notes:
Irvin and Martha Polson were in Moultrie County, Illinois when their first child was born. The next six children were born in Kansas. Irvin's last two children were born in Pawnee, Oklahoma. The 1900 Pawnee Oklahoma census shows Irvin and Martha with all nine children.

Irvin was a farmer, and in Pawnee on 16 Sept 1903, he received a land patent on 160 acres. Irvin, and two sons, probably Clarence and Carl, participated in the opening of the Oklahoma Strip. They did not, however, make the "run", but waited and purchased their land from those who did. The Polsons lived in a stone house in Pawnee that stood until the late 1980's. It is believed that Irvin built this house.

In 1909, Irvin and Martha moved their family to Clovis, California. They transported all their belongings (including a milk cow, team of horses, tools, even a dog and cat) in a rented boxcar. Irvin bought 10 acres of vineyard outside of Clovis. The grape business was in a slump and even though Irvin Polson was an experienced farmer, he had a tough time.

Martha died in 1912, and shortly thereafter, Irvin decided to return to Oklahoma. He gave his children (those that were still living at home) the option of returning with him or staying in California. John, Ethel, Elsie and Irl stayed in California in a house that Irvin left for them.

Irvin spent his last years in and around Oklahoma City, Ok. He was in serious financial straits for some time. He married again, to Letha Warren and died in Oklahoma in 1942 at the age of 87.
