GB Background Info
Among my many interests, I really love music. You can visit Uncle Benny's Music Resource Page (continuing the fine tradition of revealing just how esoteric one's taste in music can be), which is the very first page I created using graphics.
I most enjoy listening to 20th Century Music of all types, such as composers surveyed in this class at Emory University. Some of my favorite concerts in Los Angeles recently have been Kronos Quartet and the Smashing Pumpkins.

Isn't the Internet great? I was looking for obscure
bands (that I know something about) to build pages for, and
came across pages dedicated to The History and Mystery of Gong. This was
where I learned about the southern California appearance of
this UK band that hasn't performed here for over twenty five
years. The show was just fantastic. Although Steve Hillage and Tim Blake (from the original band) weren't a part of this lineup, the music was outstanding - Steffi Sharpstrings admirably filling out the sound originally created by those previous band members. Daevid Allen, Didier Maelerby, and Shakti Yoni were all in fine form. This was one of only fourteen shows in their historic US tour, and I'm really glad to say that I was there.

Frank Zappa The Lost Episodes. Probably for Zappa fans only, I think this collection is terrific. It's Frank's own personally selected grab bag of outtakes, and includes 5 tracks with the vocal stylization of the inimitable individual known as Captain Beefheart, who seems to prefer to be known as painter Don Van Vliet. It includes a lot of Zappa's early do-wop material & closes with an eleven minute plus Sharleena (which is apparently a Hot Rats outtake). You can get more information on all available recordings at the Rykodisc site.

Wow. Look what's new at Rykodisc. |
Currently Barfko-Swill Products
has a really nice list of
Burnt Weeny Hot Links and features
.WAV samples
from the (forthcoming) Frank
Zappa-produced album
The Rage & The Fury with
the music of Edgar Varese
conducted by Peter
Eotvos and performed by
various members of Ensemble
Modern.

A Line in the Sand, a most excellent site that deals with questions of cultural property (and far more interesting than anything I might have to say about what my influences have been). It really has nothing in particular to do with Einstein. |

Yes, I have changed the name from GBonline to GB
Online, because I got tired of having people ask "What's
Guh Bon Line" or "Who's Gee Bahnline". For those of you who
need an explanation, GB is the only barely legible part
of my signature and GB Online is my screen name on
AOL - and my URL, of course, is http://pages.prodigy.com/GBonline/ .
There's lots of new stuff throughout these pages since my last
update. (And a lot of old stuff, too! Feel free to write if
you encounter any "broken links".) GBonline's Mesoamerica is intended to be the meat and potatoes of these pages, covering everything from Maya Ceramics to photo tours of the sites, with a focus on ancient writing and manuscripts. There are lots of new links, and information specific to the codices is frequently updated. I try to be very supportive of anyone who needs help getting their own pages online or getting word of them disseminated, so feel free to contact me. As I've suggested in the past, GB Personal Information is so rarely visited I actually keep my PIN numbers there for easy reference. (In fact, I have now created a somewhat proper "GB" personal page, and you're reading it.) One page I pretty much have stopped working on has been dubbed GBonline Biblio, which is much easier to fit in a 190 by 160 pixel graphic than its proper name, "The web pages formerly known as Reading Research and/or Resource Center, by the HTMLartist doing business under the pseudonym GBonline". This ostensible page-in-progress now links to the really outdated Online Bibliographies and the outdated, but still useful Net Notes (especially if you're looking for dictionary items or search engines. The original drawing (after Sylvanus Griswold Morley) in the graphic above was done by me (in crayon, for reasons I won't go into right now). Biblio was meant to include bibliographies and content on particular topics of interest, reviews and recommendations of books that I have recently read or may be relevant to these pages, and links to other sites (usually of a Mesoamerican bent). I hope that all of the pages that I've put together can assist you in taking full advantage of the tools and resources available on the Web.
