Tools For Magick

Over my years of study in magick I have learned that there are many many forms and for each of these forms there are many possible tools. I cannot possibly name all of the possible tools one can use on this page but here are a few basic ones that are quite common. I suggest you delve deeper into the possibilities on your own to find the ones which tune to you the most. Much like tarot cards. Two of the most important elements in all magick is visualization and faith. So whichever path you use to take travel wisely and blessed be.

Some Tools for the Alter

Wand
There are many types of wands that a magickal practitioner can use, they range in materials from glass/crystal to something as simplistic as a twig from a tree. The important thing is that they are consecrated with the right energies, for the right purpose and that it suits you. Wands are typically associated with the element of fire.
Insense
Incense is often used during a ritual or ceremony as to represent air due to the smoke the incense creates.
Candles
Candles are often used to represent fire though in some forms of magick (including candle magick) the candle can be the focal point of the spell.
Salt
Yes, for those of you who are not familiar with magick I really do mean salt. Since ancient times salt has been known to have a cleansing nature and in magick it is used for not only cleansing but as a representation of earth
Bowl of Water
Representing the element of water, it is also often used in spells and rituals.
Bell
Bells have been known to be used in many rituals, especially for summoning spirits such as faeries.
Chalice
The history of this is stems from times when kings reigned. It often is used to represent the feminine. It typically is associated with the element of water.
Sword/Knife/Athame
These items are also used much like a wand at times to direct and focus energies. These are often used to represent the male counterpart of the balance. When a knife or athame is lowered over a chalice it represents the union of the two genders. These are typically associated with the element of air.

Some Other Tools

Herbs
Herbs are typically kept in a cabinet. A magickal practitioner often has many different types of herbs because each circumstance is different and therefore requires a different herb or combination of hersb.
broom stick
No, witches do not ride on broomsticks. Broomsticks in magick are used to clear out unwanted energies and beings.
Runes
Runes are stones with specific markings upon them often used for divination though can also be used for magickal symbolism. If used correctly runes and/or the runic symbols can channel quite a bit of magickal power.
Tarot Cards
There are millions of different decks with different interpretations and energies. It is important to find a deck that suits you personally if you are working with tarot. Though normally used for divination it also has much ancient background and symbolism in them which allows them to be very helpful magickally at times.
Mortar and Pestle
Used to ground up ingredients for the spell or ritual.
